Meridia (sibutramine) is an appetite suppressant that acts on appetite control centers in your brain therefore making it possible for you to lose weight more easily. Meridia must be combined with a healthy diet and regular exercise. Make sure you monitor your weight loss regularly and contact your health care provider in case you lose less than 4 pounds during the first 4 weeks of the treatment. Your dose may need to be changed if you are not getting the benefits from the treatment. Continue taking Meridia for a long as recommended by your health care provider. If you stop taking it without previously talking to your health care provider this may lead to gaining some weight as a result. Before you start the treatment make sure you let your health care provider knows about any diseases you have or used to have, including stroke, kidney, liver, or thyroid disease, cancer, Parkinson's disease, migraine headaches, osteoporosis, gallstones, seizures, irregular heart beat, congestive heart failure, problems, depression, eating disorder, high blood pressure, glaucoma, chest pain, pulmonary hypertension, and a heart attack, as well as any other ones you think are important to mention.

Your doctor will probably want to know your full medical history before prescribing a certain dosage of Meridia. Make sure you remember all the health problems you have or used to have and tell you health care provider about any of the following: seizures, migraine headaches, pulmonary hypertension, irregular heart beat, glaucoma, eating disorder, Parkinson's disease, kidney, liver, or thyroid disease, chest pain, high blood pressure, problems, cancer, congestive heart failure, a heart attack, depression, osteoporosis, gallstones, and a history of a stroke or mini-stroke. In case you have recently stopped taking monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors or are still taking them at the moment, please make sure you tell your health care provider about it. Taking MAO inhibitors within the past 14 days of your first dosage of Meridia can cause dangerous health effects you would rather avoid. In case of using any street drugs now or in the past also tell your health care provider to avoid drug interference and make sure your treatment is efficient.
